Should I buy refurbished laptop from Amazon?

This post is based on my experience with amazon.in and guess it to be true on all other platforms as well. At least you can check out and verify for these pointers before you make that decision to buy renewed/refurbished laptop on Amazon with your hard earned money. I see this question propping up in several forums and on many different occasions. In the recent past, I had my 5 year old dell laptop that gave up because its motherboard failed. One of the options that I had in my mind was to re-use the HDD and the 16GB DDR4 RAM of that old laptop in the one that I purchase next as secondary. I had come to a conclusion that it is not worth buying a refurbished/renewed laptop at all. Why? Android Activity's onDestroy() Ain't Your Reliable Friend

Look at the Android Activity life-cycle events in the picture beside. The lifecycle isn't something new. You're familiar with it right? You're also that good Android developer that writes clean code, wherein you consciously override onDestroy() method to include resources clean-up code and save some state, right? Per Android doc , it is okay and usually the practice to write cleanup code in this method but not anything beyond that. So if you are to write code to persist state in this method, or anything else beyond resource clean-up (like threads associated with an activity), you're better off to push it up the life-cycle, either in onStop() or onPause() method. That is how I settled in the first iteration of new learning but wasn't happy. Why? To quote Android Doc:

Google's ProtoBuf aka Protocol Buffers has been there for a good while now. It is free, open-sourced, data serialization format. But why use this? Because it is language agnostic, platform-neutral. Essential Vim For CKAD Or CKA Exam

If you are preparing for CKAD or CKA exam and are new to Vim/Vi, this post will help you know everything that is essential to being productive with Vim during your exam. Vim has 3 modes as depicted in picture below: In Command Mode , you do things like navigating your cursor from one point to another in your text file, or delete text or replace text or select text or things like that. When you open Vim, you will be in this mode to begin with. In Insert Mode , you insert text and delete text with [backspace] key :) In Execution Mode , you do things like search text in file, set tab length, set line numbers in editor and stuff like that.

How to disable gnome-ssh-askpass?

Today we had setup Git repo with access to it through corporate's LDAP authentication. From the client machines we can access it using the .netrc (where the machine, login and password are configured). However, for some wierd reason, upon trying to pull/push commits from/to the Git repository, the bash shell tries to open the gnome-ssh-askpass dialogue and it fails. I wanted to prevent the bash shell from attempting to launch the dialogue box. To do this, all I had to do is run the following command in the terminal: $ unset SSH_ASKPASS To prevent it in future, you can add the above line in your .bashrc or .bash_profile.
